Expressive Meditation

The basic premise of expressive meditation is to first release mental, physical and emotional tensions from the body and mind and then, sit in silence. By taking the lid off the proverbial pressure cooker and dumping out inner turmoil in a meditative context, we can then more easily access our inner wisdom, serenity and creativity.

All these techniques start with the body or its physical activity. Movement allows for the cathartic or physical release of tension from the body/mind and helps us transition to sitting or lying down in stillness and silence.

To be beneficial, meditation must be grounded in the body.

The techniques that follow were originally developed by my teacher, Osho, exactly for the purpose of releasing tensions before dropping deeper down into meditation. They all involve movement. The Dancing and Shaking meditations are great for releasing physical stress and tension; the Gibberish and Dynamic meditations help release pent-up emotions and mental stress, including anger and frustration. The Laughter and Laughter and Tears techniques are timeless in their ability to heal and regenerate the body and soul. The Humming is a gentle yet powerful method for healing and centering.
